This year’s edition received 79 entries from media outlets in Spain, Colombia, and Mexico. Since its inception, the competition has received over 600 journalistic works related to water cycle management.
The Aqualia Journalism Award, "Integrated Water Management in Municipalities," celebrating its 10th anniversary, has announced its five finalists selected from 79 entries. Each year, the jury recognizes the work of journalists who help foster a "water culture" by highlighting it as a scarce and valuable resource.
The selected works are:
• "Nuevas tecnologías para atajar las fugas de agua" (New technologies to tackle water leaks), by Álvaro Gómez Casado (Onda Cero Segovia / Más de uno).
• "El agua que nos une: un viaje por la realidad hídrica de Extremadura" (The water that unites us: a journey through Extremadura’s water reality), by Celia Lafuente López (COPE Extremadura).
• "El trabajo invisible de los custodios del agua de Jaén" (The invisible work of Jaén’s water guardians), by Jesús Javier Mudarra Maqueda (Jaén Hoy).
• “Los equilibristas del agua (y el gran desborde que han controlado)" (The water tightrope walkers (and the great overflow they controlled)), by Martín Mucha (El Mundo).
• "España ante la falta de inversión en agua" (Spain facing the lack of investment in water), by Griselda Romero Vílchez (RETEMA).
The jury is composed of six professionals from the fields of communication and urban water service management: Cristina Berasategui (Communications Manager at DAQUAS - Spanish Association of Urban Water); Francisco Sierra (Deputy Secretary General of APM - Madrid Press Association); María García (President of APIA - Association of Environmental Information Journalists); Winston Manrique (founder and director of WMagazín); Ana Serrano (Communications Director at SEOPAN - Association of Infrastructure Construction and Concession Companies); and Javier Cervera (Director of Communication, Brand, and Public Affairs at Aqualia).
To mark the 10th anniversary, the organization has doubled the first prize amount to €6,000. Additionally, two runners-up will receive €1,500 each, and two special mentions will be awarded €1,000 each.
The winner will be revealed on June 10th at the Madrid Press Association headquarters, in an event attended by water sector professionals, media representatives, and the Aqualia team. Santiago Lafuente, CEO of Aqualia, will preside over the ceremony and present the first prize.
